Personal injury in
Dublin.
Dublin personal injury settlements track the Personal Injuries Guidelines (2021) closely, with the Injuries Resolution Board handling the bulk of claims at first instance.
Dublin personal injury practice operates within Ireland's post-2021 framework. The Judicial Council's Personal Injuries Guidelines, adopted in March 2021 and binding on courts under the Judicial Council Act 2019, replaced the older Book of Quantum and substantially compressed PI valuations across all injury categories.
The Injuries Resolution Board (renamed from the Personal Injuries Assessment Board in 2024) handles most non-medical PI claims at first instance. A claim must be submitted to the IRB before any litigation can commence; the IRB issues an assessment, which either party may accept or reject. Rejected assessments proceed to the Circuit Court (for claims up to €60,000) or the High Court.
Medical negligence claims bypass the IRB process and proceed directly to the High Court Personal Injuries List. The High Court applies the Personal Injuries Guidelines for general damages and the standard common-law framework for special damages and economic loss.
