    On 16 August 2020 Farheen Ackrim’s car was hit from behind at a give way sign; she was jerked forward against her seatbelt and suffered a soft tissue neck injury that worsened over 12 days. Liability was admitted. The sheriff awarded £2,000 solatium, £694 interest and £450 for help from her family, £3,144 in all, and rejected “inconvenience” as a separate head of claim.

    Qaisar Gundal was injured in a road traffic accident caused by the other driver and was awarded £1,640 with interest; his injury was straightforward and he recovered fully. Outlays first claimed on his behalf were fictitious, but the sheriff found that was his solicitors’ doing, not his, and limited them to expenses on the ordinary party and party scale.
